Sierra Leoneans, past Thursday, joined Iranians to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the historic Iranian Islamic Revolution which dethroned the country’s monarchy and ushered in the Islamic Republic that has developed the nation to admirable point.

The revolution, spearheaded by the famous Imam Ayatolla Komeni, took place on the 11th February, 1979, and is regarded as the most significant event in the history of that country as it brought solution to the multifarious problems that tormented the citizens under their despotic monarchy.

The celebration, which took place at the Iranian Cultural Centre in Freetown, attracted several dignitaries prominent among which was the new Iranian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Doctor Bakhtyir.

Addressing celebrants, the Iranian Cultural Chancellor, Muhamad Ghezel Sofla, who hosted the occasion, recalled that the Iranians revolted against the monarchy era and brought in the current system which has led the country to the progressive position it now occupies on the global arena, furthering that the historic victory of the revolution led to the solution of most of the problems of the citizens. He described the revolution as friendly to friendly nations including Sierra Leone, pledging that his country will continue donating educational and other forms of support to Sierra Leone and all other friendly nations. Mr. Sofla concluded by promising that the Imam Komeni Relief Foundation, which has empowered a good number of youths in Freetown, will continue to provide and will soon extend its assistance to the provinces.
