Youth Excellence Awards – Sierra Leone
Nomination forms are now available across various locations in Freetown, Bo, and Makeni for Sierra Leone’s inaugural Youth Excellence Awards.
Any individual between the ages of 15-35 of Sierra Leonean nationality, parentage, or birth is eligible. Winners will be revealed at an awards gala at the Miatta Conference Center in Freetown on May 4 2013.
The Youth Excellence Awards (YEA) is a national event that will be held annually to recognize those young people who continue to succeed in the face of extreme challenges.
YEA will be the first multi-disciplinary awards program specifically for and about youth.
This year’s theme is ‘Shine A Light’ as it is our objective to find unsung youth heroes, and role models. Their individual stories will inspire others in our community.
At this first ceremony there will be 30 awards with specific recognition of young women and youth in the provinces. Youth from East, North, and South will be provided complimentary buses to and from event in Freetown.
Winners will be awarded for excellence in Entrepreneurship, Sports, Innovation, Social Activism, Environmental Conservation, Leadership, Media, Academic Achievement, and the Arts.
Awards will be won based on merit, impact, and an individual’s ability to excel in the face of adversity. Leading up to the event winners will be chosen from an open public nomination process. Our research team will evaluate nominees before presenting them to a selection committee. Members of the selection committee are young Sierra Leonean professionals who will review and select each category’s awardee.
