Permanent Secretary in corruption allegation
Latest reports reaching this press allege that the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Mr. Brima Rogers is engaged in corrupt activities including the misuse of public funds and public offices.
According to sources, Mr. Brima Rogers is using his office by approving funds for institutions of his own interest on behalf of street children. Sources further pointed out that one of such organizations happens to belong to his wife, Mrs. Isatu Rogers who owns the Animozo Vocational Institute for Women and Girls in Kissy, east of Freetown. It is alleged that in 2012, Le 59,000,000 (fifty-nine million leones) was disbursed to her organization by the ministry.
Another organization, Waves of Glory is also of an interest to the Permanent Secretary where he pays huge sums of money in the name of welfare of women and children.
Sources further say Mr. Brima Rogers has exceeded his retirement age, but he is using his affiliation with Secretary to the office of the Vice President, Mr. George Pessima to continue in office.
The source added that of the eleven consultants in the ministry almost all of them happen to be his family members. These include Mr. Mohamed Rogers, Salia Rogers, Mohamed Kallon, Esther Masaquoi and Phillip Tom Alpha.
When this reporter contacted Mr. Rogers at his New England Ville office he said he has no time to talk to the press.
