Meet Sierra Leone’s Ambassador-Designate to Brussels and the European Union – Hon. Ibrahim Sorie
Before his retirement last year, Ibrahim Sorie (in photo) held the enviable record as the longest serving APC Parliamentarian. For 30 odd years (1982-2012) Hon. Sorie has been representing his people of Kambia Central Constituency in the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Born in Rokupr town, Magbema Chiefdom on April 6, 1949, Hon. Sorie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Diploma in Education (BA Dip.Ed) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, after completing his Secondary School education at the Kolenten Secondary School in Kambia and his Primary education at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic in Rokupr.
He also holds a Diploma in Management Studies from the Glasgow College of Technology, Scotland leading to the award of the Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute by the Chartered Insurance Institute of London.
His exemplary public life and dedicated service to his country, first as an Assistant Teacher at the Sierra Leone Muslim Congress and later at the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood; Marketing Officer and later Deputy Manager, Motor Insurance Department at the National Insurance Company, General Manager, Pauline Marie Trading Company; Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources; Minister of State in the Ministry of Trade and Industry; APC Parliamentary Chief Whip; APC Party Chairman in the Kambia district; Focal Person EU/ACP Joint Parliamentary Assembly; Focal Person ECOWAS Parliament and many more accolades to his credit made His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to decorate him with the National Honour Award of Commander of the Order of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the second highest civilian national award last April and appointed Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths.
Hon. Sorie said he considers himself an inspirational leader who, “believes in providing enlightened and responsible team leadership to uplift and improve the lot of mankind by ensuring that we create a just, peaceful, stable and prosperous world”. He added, “I believe in treating people with dignity and respect, keeping them fully engaged in what we do and fully encourage their involvement and participation thereby establishing a culture of trust and fostering people’s pride in what they do in achieving societal goals”.
The expectations from both the government and the Sierra Leonean communities in his countries of accreditation (France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, The Vatican in Italy) are understandably high and hope he will utilise his vast wealth of experience in both private and public life to fly the Sierra Leone flag higher in Mainland Europe.
Hon. Ibrahim Sorie has the capability of achieving more for the country from that part of the globe, but requires the unflinching moral and financial support from the government to attain that dream.
Hon. Ibrahim Sorie is married with eight children.
