Usu Boie takes over Trade and Industry Ministry in Sierra Leone
The newly appointed Minister of Trade and Industry, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara, has taken office after swearing the oath of office administered by His Excellency, President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House on Monday 21 January.
Welcoming the new minister on Tuesday 22nd January, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr. Johnsen Sana Marah described Mr. Kamara as a modest but straightforward and hard working man he had known over the years while serving as Mines Director in various parts of the country.
Marah said no one should underestimate Mr Kamara because of his quiet disposition. “He can be tough and hard,” said the Permanent Secretary and called on staff of the ministry to give Mr Kamara their maximum support and cooperation.
While handing over the ministry to Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara, the outgoing minister, Dr. Richard Konteh expressed best wishes to him, stressing that he has no doubt that Mr. Kamara will live up to expectations and he urged every ministry worker to fully cooperate with the new minister.
Addressing staff of the ministry, Dr. Richard Konteh, the new Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, said it is inevitable that in life, especially in the public service, one is expected to change positions and expressed that as he leaves for office he called on those who he had offended in one way or the other to forgive him. “Likewise me, I have today forgiven whoever might have wronged me while serving in this ministry, as to err is human,” Dr Konteh assured.
On his part, the incoming minister, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara expressed delight in meeting and working with different categories of workers in the ministry. “I am addressing you as fellow Sierra Leoneans and not as colleagues because I regard every one of you as my brothers and sisters whom I expect to confer the highest regard on,” said the new minister, and recalled his experience at the Mines ministry where he had had a wealth of experience, noting that as an engineer by profession, he can quickly detect problems and find solution to them.
While thanking the outgoing minister, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara said while in his new assignment he is prepared to learn from individual workers so that they will all collaborate to succeed in the Trade ministry, which he referred to as the backbone of the country in terms business empowerment.
“My door will be open to all and sundry as every worker is important in the exercise of individual responsibilities,” he added, noting that for the president to succeed in the ‘Agenda for Prosperity,’ every Sierra Leonean should come on-board.
He said notwithstanding what people refer to his as his ‘softness’ he can be hard when it comes to the business of the State and encouraged his staff to come up with innovative ideas that would benefit the ministry and the ordinary Sierra Leonean.
Highlights of the handing over ceremony included the introduction of staff members present.
