Mayor Warns against abuse of Council Funds

The Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, His Lordship Sam Franklyn Bode Gibson, has issued a stern warning to councilors and staff to expend council funds judiciously or face imminent prosecution.

The Freetown Mayor was speaking at a maiden meeting with the Chief Administrator, councilors and members of staff at his Wallace Johnson Street Headquarters past Friday 11th January. He encouraged his staff to work very hard with him as he is not here to damage the image of anybody. He admonished staff to stop taking council money as their own money and that anyone caught in the act, he or she will be taken to Anti-Corruption Commission or the police.

He continued to say, even though council has been in a down fall, he pleaded with staff to come together and work very hard to up upgrade the council to a higher level. He said, he will not encourage anybody who takes the council money to be his own money and that even if that individual happens to be with him, he or she will bear the penalty alone.

He continued to highlighted some departments in the council such as the education department, should work very hard for council schools to get renovated. He also addressesed the finance and treasury departments to takes their responsibilities ahead of them.

Mayor Gibson concluded by introducing his councilors that will work him in his term of office.
