ACC signs Contract Agreement for the Construction of HQ at Tower Hill

The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara  and the Chairman of the Board of MODCON Construction Company Limited, Bassan Ghodssoub   on Tuesday 15th January 2013 signed a  contract agreement  for the construction of the Commission’s headquarter  which is to be situated at Tower Hill in Freetown.  The signing ceremony took place at the Commission’s Conference room at Gloucester Street in Freetown.

The ACC Commissioner praised government’s commitment in ensuring that the Commission has its own edifice it will operate from.  He assured the contractors that resources are available for the project, as the government has presently granted the sum of three billion leones (Le 3,000,000,000) to commence the project and further commitment of funds for the completion of the project from President Ernest Bai Koroma has been assured.  Mr. Kamara stated that the Commission would want to see a modern structure at Tower Hill, epitomizing integrity.

Earlier, Commissioner Kamara praised his management team for their relentless effort and support in soliciting funds for the construction of the headquarter at Tower Hill. The structure Mr. Kamara added would symbolize the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone. He spoke about the over occupancy of the present ACC structure at Gloucester street which consistently limits the work of the Commission.   He noted that the Commission is expanding to meet the government’s decentralization plan and the sophistication of the present state of governance, which he said would attract more work for the ACC involving more staff and a bigger space to operate.

He noted that the effective start date for the construction of the ACC building would be on the 7TH of February 2013.

The Chairman of the Board of MODCON Mr. Ghodssoub assured the Commission that they are doing all in their powers to see that the construction of the ACC head quarter finishes within the specified time frame and work will be done to satisfy their client.

The consultants supervising the works Ron Greene and Jenner Forde from IDEAS Limited witnessed the signing.

It should be recalled that this is not the first time that the ACC has embarked on construction of office building to house its operation, through DFID constructed, it has supported offices buildings in Kenema and Makeni respectively. Plans are underway for an office building in Bo.
