Obituary – Eddie K. Stanley has passed away in Philadelphia

Mr. Eddie K. Stanley was well-known as a very intriguing commentator who earned himself accolades for his “Telling It as It is” kind of disposition in his style of writing. He was detailed-oriented and very charismatic in his pursuit of the facts and details surrounding any mission that he embarked on. The late Eddie K. Stanley was born in Yankabor, Tonko Limba Chiefdom in the Kambia District on December 10th, 1965.  He was 48 years old. He had his elementary education at the KDEC School of Bubuya and later proceeded to the Kolenten Secondary School, Kambia.

According to sources close to the family, no specific date has yet been set for his burial.

The late Eddie Stanley is survived by his wife, Marie Veronica Stanley, children, Josephine Stanley, Edward Stanley, Joyce Kamara Stanley, and Lamin Stanley Jr in Philadelphia, USA.  Mother, Mammy Motha Kai of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Brothers and Sisters, Foday Kamara, Mabinty Kamara, Kadiatu, Isata all  in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Brima Kamara of Hamilton, New Jersey, USA.

The late Eddie Stanley leaves behind to mourn a large family in the United States – Mr. Mohamed Conteh of Philadelphia, Alie Bombolai, Philadelphia, Mabinty K. Bangura, Texas, Abu Bakarr Bangura, Colorado. Other survivors includes his In-laws – Ms. Gloria Songhor of Indiana, Ms. Josephine Kamara Taylor and Sarah Koroma of Freetown and many more in Freetown, Tonko Limba and abroad. Friends and relatives, members of the APC North America Branch, the APC Philadelphia Chapter and members of the Mabohanday Organization in the USA and Sierra Leone.

Mr. Eddie K. Stanley aka Uncle Stanley migrated to the United States in 1995, not on a pleasure trip. Rather, he fled from persecution as the result of the then barbaric war that swallowed up Sierra Leone in the early 1990s. Nonetheless, he was a photojournalist who in terms of ethical and proficient reporting is no alien to the cyber world and did not compromise his integrity. He was a very intriguing commentator who earned himself accolades for his “Telling It as It is” kind of disposition in his style of writing. He was a detailed-oriented and very charismatic in his pursuit of the facts and details surrounding any mission that he was embarking on.

The late Eddie Stanley brought to The New Rising Sun Editorial Board a wealth of knowledge and skills into what one would call “discursive journalism”.

He received an Associate Degree in Business Administration from DeVry University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Labor and Employment Relations from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.

Meanwhile, Mr. Stanley was a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) Learner in Criminal Justice with concentration in Public Safety in the School of Public Service Leadership at Capella University, Minnesota, USA.

In Sierra Leone, between 1980 and 1990, Mr. Stanley served the APC Party’s Newspaper, WE YONE PRESS as a reporter under the management of Mr. Sam Metzger. In 1990, he was absorbed into the Civil Service as an Assistant Information Officer in the Ministry of Information and broadcasting after he successfully satisfied the requirements of the civil service, since 1990 until 1995, Mr. Stanley served as a photojournalist at the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) under the directorship of Mr. Rod Mac-Johnson. In 1992, he was entrusted as the First Press Officer/ Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and the Environment.

Besides, Mr. Stanley served as Press Officer in many Government entities including Marine Resources, Defense, Education and SALHOC under the coercive NPRC junta. During his tenure in office as a Civil Servant, Eddie K. Stanley contributed immensely towards the monthly publication of the Government Information Services Bulletin as well as to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Services’ Daily Radio and Television news broadcast. Also, he represented SLENA in Zone Two (II)’s Organizing Committee and covered the entire Gala Tournaments. Furthermore, Mr. Stanley encountered life threatening assignments to cover war zones in the provinces of Sierra Leone. As such, he was on assignment in Kambia Town when the then RUF Rebels and Renegade soldiers who disguised as combatants of the Sierra Leone Military Forces invaded that beautiful and peaceful Kambia District Headquarters’ city on January 25th, 1995. His Professional versatility earned him the experience he utilized in the Diaspora.

The Management and Staff of The New Rising Sun Newspaper were proud and happy to have Mr. Eddie Stanley on board as a Senior Editor for Diaspora and African News. We will miss Mr. Eddie Stanley.

He was an active member of The Old Kolenten Student Association (OKSA), the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) Philadelphia Chapter, and also a member of the Mabohanday Organization in Philadelphia.
