$49m for HIV/AIDS activities in Sierra Leone
Director of the National Aids Secretariat Dr Brima Kargbo has disclosed that the Global Fund has donated forty-nine million dollars to support HIV/AIDS activities in Sierra Leone.
He made this disclosure in the opening of a three day workshop yesterday at the YWCA Hall at Brookfields in Freetown. Dr Kargbo noted that the donation is to support the second phase of the Global Fund round nine HIV/AIDS project. The workshop he went on is an annual programmatic and financial Review of phase one of the Global Fund round nine HIV/AIDS support to Sierra Leone.
Dr Kargbo made it clear that next year they will cut down the number of partners from 52 to 20 and that implementing partners will be provided with fixed cost resources but that procurement funds go direct to providers.
He further informed implementing partners that Global fund has asked the Government of Sierra Leone to pay 5% development fund, noting that the new affected HIV/AIDS patients in this country is 1.5% compared to the past years.
In his statement, UN AIDS representative Mr. Samba informed partners that their organization seeks to mobilize resources for human and financial support.
He urged partners to be judiciously utilizing allocated funds. He encouraged them to begin by strategic planning monthly and to conduct a joint review with SRs
