In Sierra Leone, the ACC has every right to celebrate but…

The Sierra Leone Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) deserves the right to celebrate its successes over the past year that has earned them an impressive and enviable international ranking, but more needs to be done by the citizenry as the fight should not be perceived as a one man show. Past Friday the Commission joined others in the global village to commemorate the World Anti Corruption Day as was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution No. 58/4.

The vision of the nation’s anti graft institution is to bring the people of Sierra Leone closer to the Commission, to get them to understand the ills of corrupt vices, to muster support in the fight to maintain zero tolerance,  and promote a corrupt free nation,  thus reflecting in our lives.

The ACC has been very proactive in its approach to raise awareness within government ministries, departments and agencies.  The paramount chiefs and even the private sector have all had a fair share of the anti corruption message. Truly the commission is complementing good governance through transparency, accountability, participation and effective service delivery.

The ACC has been instrumental in improving governance by strengthening the capacity of all 19 local councils across the country and has frog leaped a step further to establishing Integrity Management Committee that maintains checks and controls over public funds.

Quite interestingly, the Anti Corruption Commission has recorded an impressive Le 10.1 Billion which has already been paid over to the consolidated fund.  That is another feather in the Commission’s cap indeed!

And now for another impressive uplift, the commission has registered a significant improvement thus bolstering the country’s ranking by anti graft campaigners around the world.  This corruption perception index shows that the country is making good progress in the fight against corruption.   Sierra Express Media therefore doffs its hat to the unflagging leadership in the erudite commissioner Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara!
