PPRC Praises Election Stakeholders

Pursuant to its constitutional and statutory mandates, the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) made a preliminary statement to a battery of journalists at their HQ office, State Avenue, Freetown, over their satisfaction of stakeholders’ participation in the just concluded multi-tier elections.

Addressing stakeholders the chairman of PPRC, Justice Tolla Thompson, noted that the contribution of political parties and agents, the National Electoral Commission (NEC), the security forces, local and international observers and the general public deserved praise.

He said the PPRC deployed over 60 personnel including commissioners in monitoring the conduct of political parties in the process. In addition, he noted the commission also worked in collaboration with District Code Monitoring Committees (DCMSs) in all the administrative districts of the country. This was done with the view to bolster the commission monitoring capacity based on the Act and Code of Conduct of Political Parties in Electioneering. He said in its development strategy, the commission considered critical areas including flash points throughout the country.

The PPRC commends all the political parties in view of how they conducted their affairs peacefully within the bounds of the law and code of conduct for political parties. He also expressed their satisfaction with the management of the elections by NEC, which he says largely contributed to the good conduct of all party operatives on the Election Day.

He furthered that the commission noted with satisfaction that the Office of  National Security (ONS) and the Sierra Leone Police in collaboration with the Armed forces, to oversee the invoked  Military Aid to Civil Power (MACP) in providing the enabling environment for the political parties to conduct their affairs in a peaceful manner. The PPRC boss noted that a large turnout of local and international observers contributed to the credible nature of casting ballots; in general he said it was observed that voting process was orderly and calm, adding that the commission wishes to commend the Sierra Leonean public for their orderly behaviour throughout the voting period.
