Commonwealth Commends Election Outcome
The Commonwealth Observer Group in Sierra Leone has heaped praise on citizens over their democratic values of conducting one of the most peaceful elections in the African sub-region.
This statement was ushered in at a press conference held on Monday at the Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen, Freetown. Chairman of the Observers Group Olara Otunnu declared that though the statement is an interim one yet, it is noted that the entire polling process was tagged as successful, free, fair and credible.
He said, so far so good, the election met the criteria of international best practice. Though he stated there are challenges that look like an impediment for perfecting the democratic process in the distant future. He said voting was considered peaceful and orderly. Saying all this wouldn’t have been successful without a robust security apparatus, plans in stagnating any impeding threats, especially the restrictions of vehicular traffic.
He thanked his observer groups for their resilience and the people of the nation for such a successful outcome.
