‘Vote for more development’-President Koroma in Madina
If you think he is a President that gets tired in a few hours of work, then you should have a rethink. This is because the arrival of President Koroma yesterday in Madina, late in the afternoon, was something I received with surprise, given that for the rest of the day, he had been moving from one part of the country to another. From Bonthe in the south, to Samu chiefdom in the north and then still in the north, to Kukuna in Briamia chiefdom and then safely touching down in Madina township, in the Tonko Limba chiefdom, what I saw in him was a President that was committed to seeing his country forge ahead, one who could best be referred to as a workaholic, a dedicated one that is surely the ‘world’s best’. The visit to Madina by the ‘world’s best’ on Wednesday 14th November during his final campaign visit in the north of Sierra Leone could not have come at a better time. With just a day or so to elections, his visit to Madina, in his words was not to campaign, since this is the place where the APC has its roots, given that people like CA Kamara Taylor, Siaka Stevens et el, came from Tonko Limba. He was there mainly to thank them for having trusted him with leadership for five years and to also inform them that he will continue to do more and more when reelected on Saturday. The point should be made here that the turnout of supporters was great and superb. It showed the President is really liked and one that can win these elections. The way and manner people like Sam Sesay, Dauda Kamara, Saidu Conton Sesay and others prepared for the visit of the President also helped in getting the impact that was made by this great visit. The people of Tonko Limba have spoken and the President has been assured.
Addressing his supporters, President Koroma who is Chairman and Leader of the governing All Peoples Congress Party (APC) and also Presidential Flagbearer for the November 17th polls used the occasion to challenge any political party in the country to come forward and tell what they have done in terms of development, saying all the development we see today in Sierra Leone is as a result of the hard work of the APC.
He made reference to the good road network that has today linked Kambia district and other parts of the country, as a result of the commitment of his government. The President also highlighted achievements in agriculture, saying, because his government cares about the welfare of farmers, feeder roads have been fixed up as and this has today added value to agriculture. “We are a government of infrastructure, a government of development, we know the difficulties our farmers used to encounter so we had to open up the roads, we know the difficulties we used to have in the health sector which eventually made us to bring the free health care” He boastfully informed the audience that this is the only government that has delivered in terms of development and “I want to therefore thank you for the opportunity given me to transform this country in five years”, he said in the midst of thunderous applause.
For him, that the Agenda for Change has laid the foundation for a better Sierra Leone and that with the country moving to the Agenda for Prosperity we are now sure of doing our best to continue providing jobs for the youths as Sierra Leone is ours and that this is the time to move on. He admonished supporters of the party to remain united and ensure another mandate is given to the party by voting solidly on Saturday. According to President Koroma, he was crowned ‘world’s best’ by the people of Sierra Leone because he has been scoring goals since he was elected in 2007 and promised that when reelected on Saturday he will continue to score more goals in agriculture and in health infrastructure.
His final message therefore was “vote for me for more development, vote for me for I will continue to do more and more and more”. A resounding ‘yes’ was the answer that came from the thousands of supporters that had gathered at the field for hours, and waited for the arrival of this great leader. What climaxed the occasion was the display of traditional dances from among various villages in the Tonko Limba Chiefdom.
Present at the political meeting were the Hon Minister of Agriculture, Dr Sam Sesay, Minister Victoria Saidu Kamara of Tourism, Minister Dauda Kamara of Local Government, Saidu Conton Sesay of NaCSA, Momodu Kargbo Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon Minkialu Mansaray of Mines and AP Koroma of Works.
Also present at the meeting on the 14th November were members of the APC Asia Branch including Chairman Lamin Turay, Dr Desmond Conteh, Dr Amza Bangura, Osman Charleston Conteh and Philip Kargbo.
Another team of APC stalwarts has also just left for Kukuna to continue with the campaign process for the President .The team is led by Dr Joseph Sam Sesay and is made up of Brima M. Turay PRO for America Branch of the APC, amongst others.
