President’s Sister on Voter Education

The elder sister of President Ernest Bai Koroma, Madam Florence M. Koroma who is a retired US teacher is magnificent at voter education, not only in the Bombali District but nationwide which she has completed on her own without any funds from NEC, not even the party.  Madam Forence Koroma stated, “I do the voter education as my own contribution to the electioneering process in the country. Although it is not easy as several voters don’t understand the 4 for 4 voting which is 1 for the President; 1 for the Parliamentarian; 1 for Mayor/District Chairman and 1 for councilor. I took up the venture to minimize the void votes as this is first multi-tier election and as NEC is unable to reach several voters.”  (Photo: Mrs. Florence M. Madam Florence M. Koroma stated that she took up the venture as her civic right and a patriot as for the past elections there were a lot of void votes due to lack of voter education as the National Electoral Commission (NEC) could not able to reach several voters whilst many are unable to have access to television and radio.

She further stated the voter education made her to able to integrate and meet several people as there are challenges and she admonished voters not to use the bigger thumb for voting so the ink print does not spill out of the box, noting, “several voters don’t even know how to fold the ballot paper and misinterpret the 4 for 4 voting and many go with the idea of voting four in the first Presidential ballot paper.”

Kambia voters were impressed with Madam Florence M. Koroma for her intervention on the voter education in assuring her the void votes issue will be reduced.
