Voice of the Youth Award Chavez Foundation
Voice of the Youth Sierra Leone on Saturday 10th November officially handing over of meritorious trophy to the Hugo Chavez Foundation as part of their mandate to motivate organizations and other stakeholders to do or think better things for their country.
According to the country Director of Voice of the Youth Philip Hartling stated that, they are not giving the award by sentiment or bribe but by hard work and the votes from the public, adding that since they established in 2006 they have done so many activities in this country. He further noted that their organization helps to put end the fracas between the two main parties in this country, adding that Chavez Foundation is the award winning NGO for 2012. Noting that the award competition held on the 27th October at the hotel 5:10 complex, and the Chavez foundation emerged the winner by clinching a trophy amongst two other renowned NGO,s FHM, and GOAL for a diligent service.
In making a speech the protection and good governce manager of Chavez, James Kovoma, said such a remarkable event is not only a significant episode in the history of the foundation, but also a celebration of a blessed and honorable event which symbolizes growth and development, adding that the president Hugo Chavez Mission in Africa, is to stretch a helping hand to the poor, the down trodden, the needy, the orphans, the neglected, marginalized and vulnerable so as to maintain a stable desirable human co-existence wherein they can tighten in their own way the global growing gap between the poor and the rich, he therefore encouraged all the staff members of the foundation and well-wishers to accord their willing support and co-operation so that in love and harmony the foundation shall succeed in all its endeavors. He went on to outline some of the successes of the foundation, such as free computer training for hundreds of Sierra Leonean, donation of school materials and items to over four hundred children at Rosinte in the Bombali District, free medical service to Sierra Leoneans, signing a memorandum of understanding with other developmental oriented organizations, etc.
In making a speech the international staff Director Aminata Esther Zorokong said winning the prestigious award is honestly a dream come true although words cannot fully express her sincere gratitude, adding that it energized her to learn that there are other NGO”s like Voice of the Youth in Sierra Leone, who share the belief that Africans have a greater role to play in advancing humanity gives the Chavez foundation true significance. She further noted that the award will go a long way in supporting their peace and humanitarian services to the poor and the needy people and communities, worldwide. In concluding she stated that they look forward to making a difference as they endeavor to work towards improving the lives of people across the global villages.
In giving the keynote address the International Director Alimamy B. Sankoh maintained that the foundation has received the prestigious award with humility, gratitude, pride and responsibility, on behalf of the millions of men, women and children world wide, who have motivated them to continue campaigning for human rights. Adding that dismantling of weapons of mass destruction, peace and social justice as well as gearing towards improving the lives of people, noting that it gives them tremendous encouragement to witness the global appreciation for their humanitarian initiative and this award came with a message ‘’accelerate your humanitarian initiative to greater heights’’. He congratulated his colleagues at the foundation who work everyday with deep commitment, to advance the noble goals of the foundation. Noting that the centerpiece goal of the foundation is to help the world’s poorest, especially men, women and young people, improve their lives and escape poverty by funding low- income-generating projects helping to provide access to new ways to generate income, and improve the lives of people.
