On the 6th of November, a political meeting was held in Kabasa village by the governing APC which was chaired by a former parliamentary aspirant for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party in Constituency 39 in the Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Alhaji Jalloh. The meeting was facilitated by Dr Sam Sesay and other APC members in a bid to educate voters on how to vote and to also seek their mandate for another term in office. Kabasa village is said to be the homeland of late President Siaka Stevens.
Speaking at the meeting, Alhaji Jalloh formerly of the SLPP informed dozens of party supporters, including people from the Fullah and Limba ethnic tribes who were present at the meeting that “Fullahs have never been SLPP” and Tonko Limba chiefdom has always remained APC even during the days when the APC was in opposition. The APC, he said is the party that has always given support and protection to the Fullahs for years in Sierra Leone. On the chances of President Koroma winning the pending polls, Alhaji Jalloh spoke categorically that “there will be no run, as we (Fullahs) will give our unflinching support to the President and all the candidates of the APC here in Tonko Limba chiefdom and other parts of the country. I once contested for symbol under the SLPP but I have decided to be with the APC due to the development strides I am seeing now in the country under the APC leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma”, Another strong fullah leader in the chiefdom, Hardy Jalloh also pledged his support to the APC party saying, “as fullah, we are ready to vote for the APC for the good of the country.” They also used the meeting to appeal to government, through the Minister of Agriculture, to continue to protect them.
Also present at the said meeting was Haja Kadie Dumbuya, who recently contested for the APC symbol for a parliamentary seat in constituency 39, but lost to one Patrick Lahai Kargbo. In her statement, she called on people to vote for the party as that is one way they are sure of getting development in their chiefdom. She also called on them to put aside their differences especially as the award of symbol brought some challenges among them, saying, “…the interest of the party supersedes every other interest”, also appealing that “don’t look for someone’s face when voting, rather, look out for the APC symbol.” She also thanked Dr Joseph Sam Sesay and team for the untiring efforts in bringing people together, especially those who had decided to contest as independent candidates in Tonko Limba Chiefdom. One of such independent candidates, Alusine Sesay was also present at the meeting where he asked his supporters not to vote for him any longer but to vote for the APC party and all the aspirants, especially the APC candidate for parliament.
In his statement, Dr Sam Sesay thanked the people for hosting such a great meeting in Kabasa village which is a great village in Tonko Limba, given that the late President who was also among the founding fathers of the party Siaka Stevens came from the village. He said, the people of Tonko Limba should appreciate the good work of the present government, especially as the development that the government is undertaking is felt in every corner of the country. He encouraged them to remain loyal to the APC as Tonko people are today contributing to the development of the country. Also present at the meeting was the candidate for the APC in the ward, Desmod Kamara Jrn, Momodu Kargbo who is Deputy Finance Minister and Dr Abu Pratt amongst others.
In another engagement, Minister Sam Sesay held similar meeting in the 6th November with youths in the Madina Township where he also encouraged them to be vigilant and always work as committed APC members. As a way of invigorating the campaign in the chiefdom for the governing APC, Dr Sam Sesay also provided the youths with logistical needs, including, but not limited to fuel and bags of rice. This effort was highly appreciated by the youths at the meeting, who saw Dr Sam Sesay “as a committed and loyal servant of the party.”
Also on the same day, Dr Sam Sesay addressed hundreds of students at the Government Secondary School in Madina (above photo). He addressed them on the importance of education, saying, with education, “the sky could be your limit” giving himself as an example of someone that struggled to get educated but today, gaining the fruits of his education. He also admonished them to have God with them, have respect for their parents and give their time to their books. On the political front, he admonished those who registered to vote wisely. Dr Sam Sesay and team will be visiting several other villages in the Tonko Limba chiefdom, as part of the campaign exercise for the APC.
