Undercover police testifies in court

On Tuesday October 9, Mohamed Kamara alias Jingo of No. 21 Malama Thomas Street, Freetown, stood trial before Magistrate Steven Conteh at court No1 with three Count charges, ranging from wounding with intent, contrary to section 18 of the offence against person Act of 1861, Count two is assault, causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 47 of the offence against person Act of 1861, Count three is wounding contrary to section 20 of the offence against person Act of 1861.

The particulars of offence state that Mohamed Kamara  alias Jingo on Sunday 30 September at No.35 Lumley Street Freetown, assaulted one Abdul Karim Mansaray in a manner thereby causing him actual bodily harm. Mohamed ‘Jingo’ Kamara on the same date at 35, Lumley Street Freetown in the Freetown Judicial District in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone wounded Abdul Karim Mansaray with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Abdul Karim Mansaray who resides at 35 Lumley Street explained that he was already in bed and heard people shouting for help at about 2 am in the morning hours of Tuesday 9 October which prompted him to open his door and came outside to observe when he saw the accused person Mohamed Kamara at the gate where he held on to him, not knowing that the accused was carrying a broken bottle in his hand which he used to wound him several times. Abdul explained that he sustained injuries on his temple and on his finger at his right hand but refused to let him escape and was later assisted by some youths in the area to apprehend the accused person.

The Defence Lawyer for the accused person, I B Mammy was cross-examining the compliant Abdul Karim Mansaray started by asking what Abdul was doing at around 2am in the morning. Abdul replied that he was fast asleep. He continued his cross-examination by asking how Abdul did know the time. Abdul answered saying he looked at his time when he woke up. Lawyer I.B Mammy asked if the bar is not a cartel Abdul answered no. Defence lawyer I B Mammy said Mohamed Kamara is an under cover police officer who is working with one police officer called Razor.  Abdul denied any knowledge and the matter was adjourned.
