Bockarie Gbuanie made this statement during the visit of the president with regard to the city’s financial records and documentation on government funding to the council, of which the Kenema City Council is complying with the Local Government Act to bring transparency to their locality.
Gbuanie went on to say the Kenema City Council is not a council that misuses government funding but makes good use of whatever funding it receives from the government or other donor agencies.
He continued that indeed the Kenema City Council under his leadership as Chief Administrator, has been judiciously using funds received from central government and also donors; he added that even the Le 600 million that was donated to the Kenema City Council for the construction of Corker Jah Street market store and the town hall, was beautifully constructed, and up to standard, which has helped in the beautification of Kenema City, the Le250 million for the construction of two markets was perfectly utilized and Le300,000 for the construction of a fire force building has also been properly spent, and in fact Kenema City can boast of the finest fire force building in the provinces and that was why the council was congratulated by president Koroma during his previous visit to Kenema city .
Chief Administrator Bockarie Gbuanie reiterated that the Kenema City Council is one of the councils that has proved transparency in the area of collection of property tax, business license and local taxes which are paid to the bank. He revealed that an hour long radio program has been scheduled for each Wednesday wherein the people will be opportune to know what is going on in the council.
Speaking to an indigene of the Kenema city about the performance of the council over the years, one Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim said indeed the present Kenema City Council needs praise as they faithfully contributed to the beautification of the city compared to Chief Gbemeh’s council and called on the general public to appreciate the contributions of staff and management of the Kenema city even though there are some difficulties.
