Strong case made for Presidential visit to Georgia Atlanta Television news conference

ATLANTA/FREETOWN —   At a news conference held at People TV, Atlanta’s public access television station on Friday, August 31, 2012, The All Peoples Congress Georgia Chapter, North American Branch made a strong case for the re-election of President Koroma — as well as a strong case for his visit to the state of Georgia this month.

In preparation for His Excellency The Honorable Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s upcoming presence in the United States through the President’s participation at the United Nations later this month, APC Georgia Chapter President Abu Bakarr Kanu stated the critical importance to the Diaspora of the Southeastern region  in President Koroma’s re-election strategy.

News Conference 31 August, 3023

“Georgia is strategic because of the leadership of Georgia’s U.S. Senators, particularly on the Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs,”explained the newly appointed APC Georgia Chapter President. “We intend to ensure the Diaspora in Southeast region of the United States is informed of what President Koroma’s leadership has provided not only for development in Sierra Leone, but for human rights throughout West Africa, and internationally.”

African American civil rights faith leaders in Atlanta praised the news conference by the APC Georgia Chapter as important in continuing the dialogue between Africans and African-Americans on economic development for Sierra Leone and for small business development in the Southeast region of the United States.

“I welcome President Koroma and the Sierra Leonean Diaspora leadership in September,” invited Rev. Dr. Richard Cobble, Past President of the major civil rights organization Concerned Black Clergy.  Dr. Cobble spoke out for free and fair elections and Koroma’s leadership in Sierra Leone during a press conference at the GA State Capital by the Coalition For Free and Fair Elections held August 2007, days before the national elections in Sierra Leone.

Other press conference speakers at that time who also spoke favorably of last Friday’s news conference included Georgia State House Representative Tyrone Brooks, Rainbow Coalition Southern Regional Director Joe Beasley, and Pastor Darryl Winston, Greater Works International.

International public policy leader Mr. Al Bartell, a keynote speaker at the August 2007 press conference, spoke again in support of President Koroma at Friday’s People TV news conference, particularly regarding President Koroma’s first term accomplishments for the country and people of Sierra Leone
