Constituency 63 Disowns MP

Electorates in Constituency 63 in Tonkolili District have disclosed in the ‘Monologue’ radio program on that they may not vote in the November polls if the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. David Bai Conteh is re-awarded the party symbol instead of the choice of the people, Aruna Turay aka ‘Space.’

Abu Bakarr Jalloh, the youth spokesman in Constituency 63 recalled that at a recent meeting, the APC Tonkolili District Chairman and Education Minister, Dr. Minkailu Bah revealed that the District Executive would scrutinize all aspirants elected by the Electoral College.

Abu Bakarr Jalloh further reiterated that the Leader and Chairman of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, President Ernest Bai Koroma had earlier informed the people that they would elect the aspirants of their choice as between 70% to 80% of incumbent MPs did not live up to the expectation of the people with some even abandoning their constituencies with little or no development.

They called on APC stakeholders and the Symbol Award Committee to be transparent in the award of the party symbol recalling that in the 2007 election, people were yearning for a change in governance that paved the way for most MPs to be elected.

The people further intimated that the Committee is flouting the orders and undermining the administration of the Leader and Chairman of APC, President Ernest Bai Koroma claiming that the incumbent has not created any  impact in the constituency as he spends most of his time in Kono.

The Minister of Works, Alimamy Koroma, who is leader of the APC Symbol Award Committee in Pujehun, admonished comrades to adhere to the wish of the people while supporters of the party cautioned the APC National Advisory Committee (NAC) to be careful in awarding symbols to aspirants.
