APC Bigwigs Storm Kenema
A high powered delegation of the All People Congress Party (APC), on Wednesday 8th August addressed a battery of journalists from across various medias on non-violent activities in the November 17th polls at the Capitol Conference Room, Hangha Road, Kenema, Eastern District of Sierra Leone.
Talking on the issue of non-violent activity the Minister of Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo said his government is committed to the principle of democracy, saying it is the reason for his government providing the enabling environment for NEC to conduct peaceful, credible and fair elections. The Minister noted that the APC will soon present aspirants vying for the various contestable positions.
He maintained that gone are the days when the APC party selects candidates without the decision of the people, pointing that this time around, it will be the decision of the grass roots people to present their choice of candidates. The Minister noted his government will discourage regional and tribal politics that seem to be doing the rounds in the country; he said that is the reason the APC party is recruiting people from all corners of the country to give the party a national color.
Talking on this issue; Campaign Chairman for the APC, Leonard Balongu Logus Koroma said that his party has set up a committee in each District, Constituency, and Ward, which is responsible to award symbols, and noted that the committee comprises of 100 people in total for Constituency level, and 25 people for Ward level, which he says are members of the party.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honorable Joseph Bandabla Dauda admonished his people of Kenema District to vote wisely by voting in President Ernest Koroma for a second term in office, saying he is the right man for the job, pointing his reign in office has put this nation in the right direction. The Honorable Minister went on further to caution his people from staying clear of violent activities in the forthcoming November 17th elections, saying those found wanting of igniting violence will be tried by the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICC).
Honorable Minister of Defense, retired Major Alfred Palo Conteh added his voice to the issue, promising to partner with the Sierra Leone Police Force to provide security to every Sierra Leonean in the upcoming elections. He explained, in politics we are friends not enemies as we are singing the same hymns only from a different song sheet. He called on all journalists to be fair whilst reporting the news as he said the media can be used for both good and bad reasons.
Resident Minister East, Williams Juana Smith who hosted the delegation said he is pleased with the move of his party stalwarts, noting that such a venture is considered as a laudable one. He maintained further by reaffirming his promise he made to the people during the 2007 campaign that President Koroma is the bastion of hope and development for this nation as an undisputable fact, visible in the eyes of all to see.
Climaxing the occasion party scribe of the APC, Victor Bockarie-Foe stressed with no disrespect to those who challenged NEC’s recent nomination fees, that politic is for those who are prepared for it. He said as a party they are ready to adhere to the NEC as they are by law charged to conduct elections and his party will not go in open battle against an independent institution.
