Airtel Awards Rising Stars

Friday 10th August saw Airtel awarding the deserving players of the just concluded Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) tournament at the Miatta Conference Hall.

Chairperson of the colorful event, John Conteh of Medium Hypes, said in his opening remarks that he was very happy for the success of ARS as he has been through it nationwide.

In his remarks, Managing Director of Airtel Sierra Leone, RVS Bhullah, said that in May this year Airtel unveiled Season II of its ambitious soccer talent programme, the ARS tournament and thT Airtel focuses on identifying and nurturing budding soccer talent from grassroots onto national stage.  Bhullah exclaimed that ARS is supported by one of the world’s leading soccer teams, Manchester United, seeing Under-17 youths male and female from all over the country battle it out to win the championship.  Champions Mahmoud FC (Freetown) and Edmond Michael Foundation FC (Bo) emerged as winners of the girls and boy’s categories respectively.  Both teams will be on their way to Nairobi this time next week, courtesy of Airtel.

The MD said Airtel has demonstrated its commitment to the people of Sierra Leone by investing over US$350,000 in a bid to discover untapped talent in this country which no other corporate body has done.  An initiative like this will certainly make Airtel the most loved brand in the lives of African people by 2015.  To the winning teams I say well done, well played, well won, but don’t stop now, this is only the beginning.  Airtel has opened up your horizons, make use of this opportunity and continue to believe in yourselves.

RVS Bhullah ended by pleading with the teams to make the most out of this opportunity given to them by Airtel and to make Sierra Leone proud.

Airtel’s Commercial Director, Keith Tukei, applauded all those who in diverse ways supported the success of ARS Season II, saying Airtel believes in turning the Airtel Rising Stars into superstars.  He said 100 teams participated across the country and that he hopes the winning teams will prove themselves for the country in the Pan African Tournament in Nairobi.

Mr. Tukei promised that ARS Season III will be bigger, better, and even more exciting!

In his keynote address, the Minister of Sports, Hon. Paul Kamara expressed his gratitude to the Airtel family for catching the young.  The Hon Minister exclaimed that Airtel is supporting the President’s agenda for prosperity by building a ground work in the football industry.  Airtel has made it simple for selecting the best talent in the country and prays that the teams bring the trophy home for Airtel Sierra Leone and for Sierra Leone as an African country.
