Hon. Dauda Tombo Bangura Trophy – Four Qualify for Semi Finals
Four community teams namely Farmer Lane FC, Crab Tong FC, Black Tank and Sundu Drive FC have all booked places for the semi finals which will commence this week at the MAFA playing field Lumley.
In the opening match on Thursday 2nd August 2012, Farmer Lane eliminated Sandia Drive 3-2; on Friday 3rd August Babadorie held Crab Tong to a goalless draw in the 90th minute but Crab Tong were triumphant in the penalty shot-out 8-7 to book a semi final spot.
Black Tank comfortably defeated Bonga Tong FC 2-0 on Saturday 4th August, and the shocking result was when the favourite team of the competition My Area FC who were mostly represented by premiership super stars was upset by Sundu Drive FC in penalty kicks 5-4 after 1-1 draw in full time. The defeat was shocking to fans of My Area FC comprising players such as Goalkeeper Bangla Bobson, Ceelay, Bililie, and Salifu Samura of FC Kallon, Larry Katta of Kissy All Stars, Budu of Old Edwardians, Baggio from Cyprus, system all had experience but failed to accomplish their consistent success.
Abubakarr Sillah opened the score for Sundu Drive mid 1st half but this was cancelled 4 minutes to full time, thanks to Salifu Samura’s penalty.
Speaking to Sundu Drive FC coach, K Jeld Sahid he said he is delighted for the victory and optimistic of clinching the Hon. Dauda Tombo Bangura Trophy.
In the semi final, Farmer Lane FC will battle against Crab Tong, and Black Tank will engage Sundu Drive FC.
The champion will bag the sum of Le 5 million, Runners-up Le 2.5 million and 3rd place winner Le 1.5 million, including other individual awards MAFA scribe Denzil Collier revealed to Sierra Express Media Sport.
