Court to decide Abass Bundu’s fate tomorrow
Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Freetown Court No 2 will decide tomorrow the release of passport of former Secretary of State Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abass Bundu (in photo) after its was tendered as a requirement for bail in a legal passport matter the former has with the state of Sierra Leone.
Dr. Abass Bundu is currently keeping ill, his legal counsel applies, and needs his passport to seek medication abroad. Edmond Ngakui presented several affidavits and documents in court on Thursday August 2nd to substantiate his claims.
The lead Defence counsel further assured the court that his client has no intention of running out of jurisdiction as he has already tendered a title deed in his bail bond.
State prosecutor Gerald Soyei objected to the release of Dr. Bundu’s passport on the grounds that he should be treated in Sierra Leone as there are enough and qualified medical experts in Sierra Leone. He added that there is no guarantee that the accused will be back to face justice.
In his response, Magistrate Komba Kamanda promised to give a ruling on the issue and he adjourned the matter to Tuesday August 7.
April 13th this year was the date when Dr. Abass Bundu’s passport case was brought to court having gone through a long process of investigation at the Criminal Investigations Department in Freetown. No witness has been produced so far since the matter commenced seating.
