President Koroma Prays with Muslims at Gaddafi Mosque in Sierra Leone

Freetown – 3rd August 2012 – President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma on Friday 3rd August urged Muslims to pray for peace, unity and development during the holy month of Ramadan. He made this plea when he prayed with Muslims at the Muammar Gaddafi Mosque in the east end of Freetown.

Speaking to the congregation shortly after Jumah prayers, President Koroma said certain people are bent on provoking riotous situations in the country as the nation approaches the November general elections.

“We want a peaceful election so that as a nation we shall go back and continue with the good work that we are doing without delay after the elections”, he pleaded.

President Koroma noted that certain people were going round the country igniting violence, while the majority of the people are very much appreciative of the good works of the government, for which he thanked all well-meaning Sierra Leoneans for their invaluable support.

He assured the Imams that government will not forget the mosque and its environs, and prayed that Almighty Allah richly continue to bless the people of Sierra Leone as well as answer their prayers during and after the holy month of Ramadan.

Alhaji Issa Catco in his remarks disclosed that although President Ernest Bai Koroma is a Christian, that didn’t stop him to convince the former Libyan government when the construction of the mosque was halted under the past government, to continue with the construction and completion of the mosque as it is today.

He therefore called on Islamic clerics as jihadists to continue to talk about the good works of President Koroma and the All Peoples Congress, “As we are seeing the massive development that is taking place all over the country.”

Among the President’s entourage were several Cabinet Ministers, including the following; Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Steven Gaoja, Political and Public Affairs, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Minkialu Bah, Mines and Mineral Resources Alhaji Minkialu Mansaray and Hon. Alimamy Gibril Kargbo. Senior State House Staff and the State House Press Corps were also present.
