PMDC in Disarray

Six national executive members of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) have expressed interest to contest a legal battle at the Appeals Court of Sierra Leone following Charles Margai’s legal row against two PMDC members.

According to the Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Steven Gaoija, the six in question received an invitation letter for an investigation from the party leadership demanding answers from them on allegations relating to party activities.

Minister Steven Gaoija informed journalists in Freetown that the six members would not attend the said invitation as there is already a court injunction restraining all the PMDC members from undertaking political activities until their house is put in order.

Gaoiga also promised PMDC members that the party will be holding a national convention to select it flag bearer.

Another strong PMDC member, Minister of Fisheries and Marine resources Dr. Soccoh Kabia said Charles Margai’s letter is ridiculous as he demonstrates that he lacks respect for the profession he has served for over a period of 40 years.  Dr. Soccoh Kabia also notes that instead of lawyer Margai concentrating on uniting the crevices within the party all he does is go around the nation boasting that he will be the PMDC presidential flag-bearer in the November 17th elections.

National chairman of PMDC, Alhaji Bai Sama Sankoh, one of those invited, said that they are ready to face Lawyer Margai in the High Court.

The eight allegations involved holding party meetings, appointments of ministers, holding party documents and others without seeking the general consensus of the party hierarchy officials.
