MPs react to loss of deputy speaker
Freetown, July 18 (SLENA): Members of Parliament representing the three different political parties in parliament have reacted differently over the sudden death of the deputy speaker of parliament, Hon. Chukuma Johnson (in photo) of Constituency 94, Western Rural.
Making his solemn contribution, Hon. Claude Kamanda of Constituency 95, Western Rural referred to the late man as one who has served this nation to the best of his ability, adding that the country has lost a true Sierra Leonean.
Commenting on the role of the honourable member in parliament, Hon Kamanda said the late man was friendly and helpful to his colleague parliamentarians regardless of their political affiliations.
A representative of the PMDC in Constituency 88, Pujehun district, Hon Shaka Sama said the death of the deputy speaker is a big loss to the ruling APC party in particular and the nation as a whole, referring to him as simple but committed to his official responsibility as deputy speaker, and encouraged family members to take heart.
Hon Komba E Koedoyema of the opposition SLPP representing Constituency 26, Kono district said he has worked with the late man for ten years in parliament, noting that he was a man who had Sierra Leone at heart in terms of development, especially in the area of auditing the civil service.
He said while in parliament the late MP was never controversial, especially during debates. He therefore called on his compatriots to stay calm as the nation has lost a development oriented personality.
Hon. Mohamed Kanu of Constituency 54 referred to the late man as a philanthropist who assisted all and sundry in times of need and wished the bereaved family his personal condolence.
