Sierra Leoneans to Partake in the Olympic Games
Ibrahim Turay and Ola Sesay is are to represent Sierra Leone in this year’s Olympics Games in London. The games will commence on 27th July and end on 12th August 2012. The male athlete Ibrahim Turay had arrived from Senegal where he spent eight months of intensive training. He assures Sierra Leoneans that he is going for laurels in the London games. Ola Sesay arrived from the USA and will be competing in the long jump.
Sierra Leone Volleyball Team Suffered Defeat in Cyprus
The Under-19 Volleyball Team currently in Cyprus has lost a second match against Spain in the city of Lanark Cyprus. Florence Amara sports reporter who accompanied the team to Cyprus revealed that the team is faced with difficult encounter but said the players are fighting to regain their lost glory in the up coming matches.
Coastal Business Registration for Free
The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has announced that registration for all coastal businesses in Sierra Leone is now cost free. Fishermen and boat owners in Freetown have turned out in their numbers to register their fishing canoes and gears, the Ministry reveals. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources with support from the World Bank’s funded West African Regional Fishing Program has been conducting the registration exercise. The exercise is aimed to strengthen and effectively manage the country’s fishing sector.
UAE Donates Gifts to Muslim Community in Sierra Leone for Ramadan
Food items amounted to the tune of Twenty-five thousand United States dollars ($25,000) worth has been donated by the United Arab Emirate (UAE) to Sierra Leonean for the Ramadan season. This donation caters for Muslim-men and women who will be observing this year’s holy month of fasting (Ramadan). This donation was made possible through the effort of a Sierra Leonean working in the UAE Embassy in Dakar, Senegal. The items include bags of rice, cooking oil and sugar.
FAWE Calls for Young Women to be Skilled
Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE), has called on young women in Sierra Leone to maximize their potentials by engaging themselves in skills training exercise. FAWE went further to advice women to enroll in capacity building courses such as electrical engineering, carpentry, mason and other professional areas.
