Mustapha Haji recues Salone beach volleyball dele

Mustapha Haji Bangura willingly consented to foot the hotel bills and feeding of the four man delegation, inclusive of two players and two officials, to remain in the hotel for the remaining days after the team’s elimination in the tournament.

It is however a regulation of the tournament that all teams eliminated in the group stage should vacate the hotel or pay extra bills to see the climax of the tournament and Sierra Leone as well as all African teams in the tournament could not proceed to the next stage and hence became victims of the law.

‘’I think Haji was an angel sent from above to rescue the situation and we appreciate him for his kind gesture and generosity,’’ said Sorie Kamara head coach and leader of the delegation.

He recalled that Haji complimented the efforts of the executive of the Volleyball Association that singlehanded financed the team when the Sports Ministry could not render any help for Sierra Leone’s participation in the historic event of the FIVB Swatch Youth Championship.

The Association Scribe Ahmed Khanou and the entire executive worked tremendously to at least sent the male team to represent the country, leaving out the female who qualified to the Championship with bronze as a result of lack of financial support.  We are grateful for Haji’s timely intervention to assist the association,’’ Sorie cited.

In another development, the Cyprus based professional football player for Leone Stars invited the team to Lunch and Dinner with his family at his Limassol residence on Friday, 13^th July, 2012.  Mustapha however refused to comment on his assistance to the team.

Meanwhile, the delegation will depart for Egypt, Monday, 16^th July where they will stay for four days before they finally leave for Freetown on 22^nd.
