Allen Town Health Centre Moribund

The Community Health Centre at Allen Town, east of Freetown, is in a deplorable state and now a death trap.  The center, which hosts over five hundred pregnant women, lactating mothers, under-five children and other patients, lacks basic facilities like water and electricity supply and beds with cracked walls.

A community elder, Ibrahim Sesay stated that triplets have been delivered at the centre and that several pregnant women suffer during labor due to the difficulty to access the facility at night or in emergencies.

He blamed the Ministry of Health and Sanitation for the anomaly underlining that Allen Town is the gateway to the city and lamented that even the road leading to the health centre is in a deplorable state reiterating that the absence of modern facilities at the hospital has resulted to the community not benefiting from the free healthcare scheme.

Umu Hawa Conteh, a pregnant woman revealed  that she would have died during labor but for the timely intervention of her family members who hired a vehicle that conveyed her to the Rokupa Government Hospital, the nearest health facility in the area.

The people are appealing to government and other stakeholders to come to their aid by improving the health center to save lives.
