Can Someone Listen to Cries of WIAs
We owe much to our national and social consciences to respect those who have sacrificed their youthful periods and drips of bloods for the greater good of Sierra Leone. Robbing such fallen heroes of their quota of livelihood is an unwise decision. It is becoming unbearable to some of us; each time we see the cries of those ex-soldiers tagged as Wounded in Action (WIA) going unheard by the necessary authorities responsible to listen their cries. Relieving these soldiers of active duty on the platform of physically and mentally challenges is perhaps the wisest decision by those responsible to dispense judgment on them, but what stands arguable is the fact that ever since they were laid off, arrears due them have not reflected their pockets.
Time and again protest actions have been stage-managed by these WIA, which has galvanized to the intervention of many institutions and people of trust but yet we continue to see the swathe of unwholesome neglect.
Yesterday I heard the Inspector General of The Sierra Leone Police Force (SLP) Francis Allieu Munu standing as emissary championing the plight of these WIA’s to the President and the state as a whole. It is heart rendering that despite the intervention of the Human Right Commission of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces or better still the Ministry of Finance is still unable to meet the requirements of the tribunal commanded for their honour.
Responsibility lies with those entrusted with power to respect the honorable services of these ex-soldiers, the time and hour to practice what we preach here. Those ex-service men are also bread winners of their various homes and families.
Having served in the army for so long with all their consciences they now deserve to live an average life without economic entrapment.
In this regard, peaceful and patriotic Sierra Leoneans will not like this satiation to generate something abysmal to the current peaceful atmosphere we are currently living in.
Our people say those who listen well learn the more.
