Journalists School on Social Protection Use
Over forty journalists from the print and electronic media were schooled on the concept of social protection in the capital of Freetown. The special training workshop took place July 3rd at the Grassroots Empowerment Movement Building (GEEM), 58 Jones Street, Freetown.
Speaking during the workshop the Communications Officer for The World Bank, Mohamed Sidia Saffa said the aim of the workshop was to expose journalists to best practices and techniques on how they should be reporting newsworthy activities on social protection.
He noted that the issue of social protection promotes economic degradation which is reason enough why they have designed the said workshop to help build journalists’ understanding on the many ways by which the economy would be raised from its current limbo.
He maintained that the basis of news reporting should follow a particular journalistic style, citing reference to the focus of a journalist in reporting using distinct language phrases in a structured sentencing manner.
He called on Journalists to follow the pyramid structure of reporting and to stay focused in their bullet points in reporting social protection issues.
