Deputy Fisheries Minister visits landing site

Briefing the minister at the two sites, the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Mohamed B. Cole who is also Officer in Charge of Statistics in the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources said the project was funded by the African Development Bank with the aim of promoting the Artisanal Fisheries Sector.
Mr. Cole, who took the Deputy Minister and entourage on a conducted tour of facilities of the landing sites, including the Generator House, Fish processing Hall, Ice plants and Locker Rooms, said these were completed by local contractors in September, 2010, adding that the facilities were modernized in order to add value to the fisheries products.
Responding, the Deputy Minister, who was also accompanied by the Acting Deputy Director of Fisheries, Hotanga Arnold Robbie and Permanent Secretary, Mani Koroma, described the facilities as massive and splendid, saying they will boost fisher folks in the artisanal sector, especially women.
She promised to help in putting modalities that would fast track the commissioning of the facilities so as to benefit the country and called on the community members to cooperate with the ministry to ensure that the project is successfully implemented.
