The Anti-Corruption Commission has on Monday 25th June 2012 updated civil society representatives and media practitioners operating in Makeni on its activities in the second quarter of 2012.
Addressing them at its Northern Regional Office at Mena Hills in Makeni, ACC’s Regional Manager, Patrick Sandi noted that collaborating with civil society organizations and the media in the fight against corruption is in line with the core values of the ACC, which require regular update and engagement. He said updating them on the activities of the Commission and its mandate, will increase their knowledge and understanding on how it operates.
He emphasised that the ACC remain poised in the fight against corruption amidst several challenges.

Representing the Commissioner, the Director of Public Education and Outreach Department, Mr. Shollay Davies commended civil society organizations and media practitioners for supporting the Commission. He observed that as civil society members and media practitioners interface with the public, it is necessary for them to be properly orientated in a bid to enhance accuracy in dissemination of information relating to the Commission to the public and changing negative perceptions. “The fight is not an ACC fight but the people’s fight. That is why you have to be actively involved.”
The Director of Public Education and Outreach Department explained the activities undertaken by the department in the second quarter of 2012. He noted that there has been sharp increase in awareness raising programmes embarked by the department and the Northern Regional office doing the highest in the whole of the Commission. Director Davies expressed satisfaction that in every corner of this country, people are talking about ACC and its efforts in fighting corruption.
Mr. Davies explained ACC’s interventions in ensuring the improvement of the health care service delivery system and success of the Free Health Care programme in the country. He told the civil society and media representatives that the health delivery system is one of the benchmarks used to measure the country’s development, which is why all of them should ensure transparency in the health sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Systems and Processes Review Department, Mr. Adu Amara explained the activities undertaken by the department in the second quarter which are geared towards the Commission’s preventive approach in fighting corruption. He made mention of interventions at various government ministries, departments and agencies among which are the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, National Registration Secretariat, Births and Deaths, National Revenue Authority and Local Councils. Mr. Amara disclosed the department’s monitoring exercise on the Free Health Care and the launching of the service charter for government hospitals in Makeni, Bo and Koidu.
Manager of NACS Mrs. Christabelle Gordon-Harris gave an update on the National Anti-Corruption Strategy. She explained the new issues in the revised national strategy and the involvement of civil society members in the monitoring exercise. Abdul Rahman Mansaray Esq. spoke on the Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecution Department. He gave an update on number of cases under investigation, those in court and number of convictions.
Making their own input, representatives of civil society organizations and media practitioners made meaningful contributions on the mode of partnership with the Commission.
