High contest over SLPP symbol in Kenema
Ahead of the November 17th poll nine people have aspired for the SLPP symbol for Constituency 09, Kenema city, among the contesting chief Bockarie Nomo lie Salami who has declared to vein for the position to be member of parliament for Constituency 09 under the SLPP party.
At the declaration forum in the party office in Kenema, Bockarie Salami told the party members that his aspiration is out of the call made from the people of Constituency 9 to represent them in parliament come the 2012 November poll. He said as a young man who had been with his people in undertaking development activities in the constituency with no support from any angle but from personal resources, it is out of that that he was called upon to serve them.
Salami told the SLPP that he believes the ideology of the party as a responsible party. Adding he originated from the party and has sacrificed his life under the party to restore democracy in the country.
Talking about developmental activities undertaken, chief Salami said he has financed road construction in the constituency, market culvert, school, a youth centre and has assisted the women.
He also said on behalf of Constituency 9, he paid Le 5 million for the party office space when the party was in financial constrain which the party was about to be disgraced.
He assured the SLPP members that whether he gets the party symbol or not, he will remain in the party as he loves the party first before aspiring for the party symbol; he called on his people to entrust in him as he will serve in their own interest.
The district chairman for SLPP Author Koroma commended Salami for his diligent loyalty to the party. He said Salami is one of the few young men that have sacrificed their life for the protection of this nation. He said, declaration for position in the party is not part of constitution, but a custom which all aspirants should do for the electorates to know them so that the voters will be able to make wise decision to vote.
Madam Gitta Ngobeh said, as executive, they will give equal opportunities to aspirants when they are well informed. She called on all to support any candidate hat will get the symbol.
