SLPP Chair Blasts Tax Choppers
Chairman of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) John Oponjo Benjamin has stated in a press statement issued on Wednesday June 20th that members of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) are guilty of siphoning monies accrued from tax payers pockets.
Mr. Benjamin further described the APC led government of stealing from the coffers of the country in a blatant manner, and accused them further to have squandered all monies they bequeathed in the coffers before they exited power in 2007.
The opposition figure said the ruling system is now maintaining a few sacred cows as their public expenditure is far surpassing the income government accrues which is now creating moles for lots of deficits in the country’s income generating drive.
He claims this is causing the central bank slippages as the cost value of lending and borrowing had cause a shift drip in the legal tender which is currently the result of sky rocketing inflation in the country.
Mr. Benjamin said on to the year 2007 when they were exiting power the economy grew on an average level of 7% percent growth annually, which was the growth toll for sub Saharan countries economic growth level at the time. He noted also that the 35% percent projection of economic growth, the ruling APC is yelling is nothing but mouthwatering claims that are not visible to the ordinary Sierra Leonean.
Mr. Benjamin cited the International Monitoring Fund (IMF) report about the economy of Sierra Leone with a 5% growth in real figure terms damning the 35% the Minister of Finance is purporting.
The SLPP National Chairman and Leader called for a change of order to save the land from sinking in economic quagmire.
