Works minister urges speedy road construction
Freetown, 20 June (SLENA): Acting Works, Housing and Infrastructure Minister, Abdul B. Barrie has advised two construction companies to redouble their efforts in the completion of the Moyamba, Pujehun and Kabala township roads.
He made this statement during an inspection tour of the three districts in order to get first-hand information on progress made so far.
Mr. Barrie expressed the need for T-Mack Construction Company, which is working on the Moyamba and Pujehun townships, to add to their equipment to help them fast track the construction work.
The Acting Minister noted that despite the fact they had done part of the drainage and excavation work, they still need to employ skilled Sierra Leoneans in the labour and engineering sector in order to meet their target time frame.
Commenting on the development at Kabala Project, Mr. Barrie said construction work had come to a standstill and the stakeholders including the community people are not happy with the excavation and drainage work in the township.
Mr. Barrie said the Paramount Chief of Warayagala, P.C. Gbawuru had brought this state of affairs to his attention for urgent action so that work will resume in earnest.
He revealed that he had engaged the Finance Ministry to speed up with payments for the projects, adding that he will be in Kabala soon to talk to all stakeholders and the company.
