Bittar exclusive – we have the strikers to scare anyone
Soccer pundit Alie Bittar last night claimed Sierra Leone have an attacking force that can scare any team in the continent. The former Spectator Sports Editor Bittar, who is now a pundit for African Sports network, insisted that Sierra Leone is on the right track if they continue to get full support from the football authorities in the country and soccer fans.
“Before the qualification started, I said organisation is the key to our success, because you look at the players and the way they have excelled in Europe is easy to notice, we have the potential to do well against South Africa, and Egypt. Sierra Leone in recent months has shown how threatening they are up front”, said Bittar (in photo).
“We have move into the final round of qualifying in September and October for a place in the tournament proper early next year in South Africa. Every other nation in the continent on the whole has noticed this and what will happen is no one will fancy playing against Sierra Leone. In that case our next opponent will without doubt take no chance against us and it will be interesting to see who we draw against for our final games later this is year.
Whoever it is, we are capable to make it a must win business for Sierra Leone if we are to reach the continents biggest stage in South Africa next year after 17 years of absence.
“With the likes of Kei Kamara, Tetteh Bangura, Celtic Mohamed Bangura all available for our next qualifier for South Africa 2013 you see our qualification is certain considering how the trio’s have developed, and given the national team good movement against any opponent we will reap the reward soon.
“Kei and Tetteh both get the double in Sierra Leone victory and with the added threat from midfield and wings Medo, Barlay and Milan Strasser if there are no injuries, it is apparent that we can compete in any stage across the continent.
“All these players have three good games so far, two wins at home and an away result against a tough side Equatorial Guinea, and that has showed great character in the team; not to forget the Swede technician, Olaf and veteran star player Mohamed Kallon is also a great addition to stimulate the younger players in the squad.
“We missed out in qualifying for the last Nations Cup because we failed to defeat South Africa at home but it is clear we can do it this time and we also have a better chance to enter the next stage of qualifying round for Brazil 2014, our main contest is against Tunisia and I believe if we have the same strength on the day, we can beat any team” he told Sierra Express.
