Corpse Found at Ferry Terminal
The unidentified corpse of a boy, believed to be 19 years old, was on Tuesday 12th June, 2012 discovered at Ferry Terminal.
According to some passengers onboard Mahera Ferry travelling from Tagrin to Kissy, the corpse was washed ashore by the sea waves while a youth in the area, Abdul Lahai disclosed that he saw the victim swimming near the beach the previous day but said he thought he had gone home.
Abdul Lahai continued that the next day, the corpse was discovered ashore and conveyed to the Connaught Hospital Mortuary.
Another resident in the area, Ya Adama Kamara disclosed that youths are in the habit of swimming in the area not realizing that the beach is dangerous with sharp instruments.
She said they have warned the youths several times to desist from swimming in the area but that these have fallen on deaf ears reiterating that in spite of the numerous reports of drowning to the police much have not been done to discourage the practice.
She appealed to the authorities to put strategies in place to prevent youths from swimming in the beach stressing that apart from the fact that the beach is infested with dangerous objects the terminal is also in a deplorable state.
