Disabled included in Hajj Committee

The Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs Steven N’ Gaoija has said in Freetown that members of the disabled community have been included in the total number of 149 persons the government of Sierra Leone has offered Hajj rites tickets to visit the holy Ka’aba in Mecca to perform this year’s fifth pillar of Islam -Hajj.

The Minister said the government also decided to increase the number of female participation in the Sierra Leonean Hajj delegation to the holy land of Mecca to create a fair gender balance in the process.

He said a total of 750 took part in last year’s pilgrimage adding that they have plans to increase such number to one million for this year’s Hajj.

He said the 2012 Haja secretariat is now open at the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs as the successful candidates are expected to leave the shores of Sierra Leone for Mecca on September 26-28 this year.
