Government sadden by the Wellington incident
Freetown, 08 June (SLENA): The Government of Sierra Leone has issued a press release through the Ministry of Information and Communications expressing grave concern over the spate of armed robbery in Freetown and its environs.
In the release, government showed its concern over the most recent incident at Wellington, east end of Freetown which claimed the lives of two youths (said to be school children) residing in that community.
In the press release, Government extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families for those losses whilst at the same time renewing it constitutional commitment to continue to protect lives and properties of its citizens.
Government further reminded the public that the formation of community vigilante groups should only be done in due consultations with the Sierra Leone Police that has the constitutional responsibility to project lives and properties.
Government also assured the public that it will continue to provide the necessary logistical support to the police for the maintenance of Law and Order throughout the Country, adding that there was no cause for alarm as the police were on top of the situation in curbing and eliminating the spate of armed robberies across the country especially in the capital city, Freetown and its environs.
