Usu Boie says APC is Noah’s Ark

One of the newest members of the All Peoples Congress (APC), the former flagbearer aspirant of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara (UBK) has said at the APC headquarters in Freetown that President Ernest Koroma’s APC is Noah’s Ark. UBK made this analogy while delivering an address of his official declaration as member of the APC.

“You all remember the scripture in the bible about Noah and his people. When the heavy rain was to fall, God commanded Noah to build an Ark for all his followers so they can be saved from the rain. Well the APC under President Koroma is an Ark and we should all come onboard to be part of the development and support this President who cares so much for his people,” UBK says.

He went further to describe the SLPP as a bunch of evil planners, “You know we have a verse in the Quran, which says the enemies will plan evil against you forgetting that Allah, the master planner will plan against them as well.” And explained, “That is what happened between the SLPP and I. They thought they were doing me harm with their evil plans little did they know that Allah the Master planner was planning against them.”

Many had anticipated UBK’s crossover to the APC since that mischievous lost of the leadership contest to Maada Bio. But he kept his silence until few weeks ago when he made it clear to the leadership of the SLPP that he was no longer interested being a member of the party. The SLPP responded heavy handedly by employing its newest stratagem one local tabloid editor has coined “preemptive excommunication” to expel UBK from the party. Political analysts have called this action as ‘diabolic’, which was responsible for hastening UBK’s declaration for APC.

Alongside UBK were very prominent SLPP members; Alhaji Yahya Deen Kamara (YDK), Major Ismail Sengu Koroma and Kadie Johnson Cole who declared for APC. Like UBK, Major Koroma and Kadie Johnson Cole were also among the nineteen party members that contested for the flagbearer position. YDK on the other hand was the Port Loko District chairman of the SLPP and most influential operative of the Party in the north. Upon suspecting that he too was planning to leave the SLPP, here comes the SLPP preemptive excommunication to show him the door.

Few weeks ago, the current running mate of the SLPP Dr. Kadie Sesay boasted that she will deliver Port Loko to the SLPP come November 17th, 2012. She was banking on the support of YDK. Now, analysts are saying that Dr. Kadie Sesay is not too happy with the SLPP strategists. “How am I going to deliver Port Loko?” she was caught thinking aloud.

And the pockets of SLPP supporters in Port Loko are also wondering “How can she let YDK go?” “This man,” they said, “single handedly delivered 18,000 votes to the SLPP in Port Loko District” But the fact is “the woman is not from Port Loko, she has more ties to Moyamba than Port Loko, so she would not know,” one disappointed supporters said dismissively and walked away.

The former young Generation leader for the SLPP in the Western Area Ishmael Coachie Mansaray who also officially declared for the APC during the ceremony cited Tribalism, Marginalization, Disrespect for former President Kabbah by current SLPP leadership, Controversial roles of the elders of the SLPP, Role of parliamentarians and the Vision 2017 extermination of Usu Boie as the six reasons why UBK left the SLPP to declare for the APC.

Welcoming UBK, YDK and the 576 executive members of SLPP from various constituencies, the Chairman and Leader of the APC Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma told his new converts that the APC is a national party that has no barriers or status. He highlighted the achievements of his government for the past four years. He asked that voters stack his four years’ achievements against SLPP’s fifteen years intentions, which includes NPRC’s four years. President Koroma worked the math for his audience when he said, NPRC four years + SLPP’s eleven years = SLPP’s fifteen years. Simply, President Koroma was stating that NPRC and SLPP are one and the same.

He climaxed the occasion by handing over party cards to UBK and YDK as well as handing over copies of 576 resignation letters of the former SLPP executives to the Secretary General of the APC, Mr. Victor Bockarie Foh to process their membership applications to the APC.

The SLPP leadership and membership had tried to downplay the departure of both UBK and YDK with their diabolic preemptive excommunication stratagem, but the turnout of supporters in today’s ceremony may have sent a strong message that SLPP strategists have gone wrong again.

A renowned journalist referred to the move by the SLPP as an own goal that is going to land President Koroma a first round victory in November 17.
