City Councilor to challenge incumbent for Mayorship in Kenema
The councilor of the Kenema city council Yatta Sama has pronounced her intention to vie for the position of mayor ship for Kenema city for the November general election. According to Yatta Sama, her the motive for her aspiration for the mayorship is that as woman, she has done many things within her constituency, and for the SLPP party, adding that she has served the women wing of the party. Yatta Sama said since she has served her people as councilor for two terms for city councilor she plans to go for the mayor ship in order to uplift the developmental activities in the city.
Yatta Sama stated that as woman she believes that she can do better than the incumbent in area of the development. She noted that she has represented SLPP in and out of the country under the respectable party and she has never been associated to any political party and she will never think of any party in life except the SLPP.
Councilor Yatta Sama further said she has written letters to the district executive of the party, and the national executive body. She assured the people of Kenema that with their support, she will serve the people of Kenema with all seriousness for the development. She also said, she has served as chairperson for development committee in the council and always prepare to work in the interest of the people of Kenema.
However many residents this reporter spoke to on the aspiration of Yatta Sama say that she is one of the few councilors that the Kenema city can be proud with, but others said she is not trusted as a warden as she needs to explain how the Moawoma Women Organization program was managed and how the funds were utilized; she needs to be accountable, said one woman Mamie Vandi from Dama chiefdom.
One Saffa Bockarie told this medium that the mayor ship position is yet to debate on as there are many people aspiring for that post which they will not take a decision for now .
