Leone Stars Delayed in Malabo Airport

The Sierra Leone national team delegation was unnecessarily delayed upon arrival on Thursday evening at the Malabo International Airport by immigration officers and the Football Association representatives in Equatorial Guinea.

The 31-man delegation on board the ASKY Flight KP042 safely landed at the newly renovated airport at around 17:10 GMT and was only allowed after spending closed to two hours, waiting for the immigration department to give clearance.

However, the contingent was taken to the Tropicana Hotel- one of the best in the country and very close to the stadium. The 18 players in the delegation are well prepared and according to the skipper, Ibrahim Kargbo, the motivation of three thousand dollars upfront for each player would serve as the 12th Leone Stars player on the pitch.

“We are ready to prove ourselves and tell the world that our latest FIFA ranking is no fluke. We are well motivated, inspired and focused for nothing less than all three points,” the Leone Stars skipper said.

However, Paul Kamara could not be reached as at press time but sources close to the ministry disclosed to this press that the players did came to see the minister but that the minister was not happy with their demand to the point that he had to tell them that they are not playing for money. “The minister is working for money because he has never rejected a month’s salary or asked that his salary be diverted to the Leone Stars account in support or patriotism to his country, why then is he embarrassing the boys with patriotism. After all, patriotism comes with a price,” the source added.

Meanwhile, we are investigating why the ministry spent Three Hundred and Seventy-seven Million Leones on 29 air tickets to Malabo when less than Two Hundred and Fifteen Million would have done the transaction.
