Eddie Turay steps into Koroma’s shoes in London
Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom was among high profiled state dignitaries when he represented his President His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, at a lunch in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee as Head of the Commonwealth.
Turay and a host of others were first received by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and Mrs. Sharma at the ceremony which saw Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh also in attendance.
Earlier, the High Commissioner attended The Thames Pageant 1000 vessels which descended the Thames from Battersea to Tower Bridge in a very colourful ceremony.
The programme which saw The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh travelling in a Royal Barge was also attended by Prime Ministers; High Commissioners resident in the UK and representatives of the overseas territories.
Turay was also in attendance at a Thanksgiving Service at the St. Paul Cathedral and later a reception at the Guildhall followed by a lunch at Lancaster House.
The High Commissioner later represented President Koroma at a luncheon for Commonwealth heads of government in honour of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Turay described the programme of events as highly successful full of historic and extra-ordinary developments.
