What the Queen said of President Koroma

Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain has described Sierra Leone’s President as a remarkable leader.

“How’s your President? I learned he’s doing well with his people – he is a very remarkable leader,” the Queen told Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Edward Mohamed Turay during the presentation of credentials at Buckingham Palace in London.

The meeting between the Queen and the High Commissioner itself was a closed-door talk, but the later made the disclosure while addressing Sierra Leoneans and the press at the Sierra Leone High Commission on Holborn, West Central London.

“I can’t believe my ears hearing from no less a person than the Queen very good compliment about our President – we should give him (President Koroma) the support he needs to take Sierra Leone forward.”

Veteran politician Dr. Seray Wurie also spoke of his experience at a meeting in London where he said senior diplomats spoke highly of President Koroma.

“It was unbelievable – I feel very proud and elated that such compliments were said of my President – to me, it shows that we have decent Sierra Leoneans to boast of in the international world,” Wurie said in acknowledgement of Turay’s experience.

High Commissioner Turay also seized the opportunity to remind the Queen about a meeting he had requested on behalf of his President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in London next year ahead of Sierra Leone’s 50th Jubilee anniversary.

“The British government will be very proud having President Koroma on a state visit to the United Kingdom – he is such a great and committed leader,” said one senior western diplomat.

Other members who met the Queen that same day were the Head of Chancery Florence Bangali, Counsellors Sahr Demba and Josephine Marah and Information Attaché and Sierra Update Publisher Sorie Sudan Sesay.
