NEC to investigate missing fingerprints

Freetown, June (SLENA)- The National Electoral Commission is to commence an administrative enquiry to verify individual cases of multiple registrations following the weeklong observation of the BVR de-duplication process in Brussels, Belgium.

Speaking to journalists during last week press briefing, the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Dr Christiana Thorpe said the investigation will start on the 6th of June and last till the 10 of same.

A committee will be set up comprising electoral commissioners and technical experts, she said, adding that the process will be observed by political parties and observer groups. The police will be in attendance when needed, she assured.

Also to be investigated is the case of the 30,000 or so missing fingerprints as reported from Brussels. Explaining the possible causes of the fingerprints, NEC technical expert, said two possible case scenarios might have been responsible. “Either some technical error might have occurred during the registration process or the missing fingerprints would be those of the amputees,” the expert noted.

Madam Thorpe however assured that all of these cases would be investigated.
