Over Usu Boie’s Hero Coming to APC… SLPP Jittery

“We Sierra Leoneans cannot afford for our country to slide back into war and chaos that would take us back another fifty years. I urge you all to think Sierra Leone first and encourage others to nurture the budding democracy that would enable the necessary peace and tranquility to allow development take place” the words of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara delivered on December 18, 2010. What he meant was that political loyalty and belonging does not matter, what matters was the fact that every Sierra Leonean is tied into nurturing the peace and tranquility which we all suffered to earn.

One thing stands clear in this paragraph: Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara was standing tall to preach that peace must reign supreme in the land for which he decided to be bold and honest enough to tell the SLPP then that, (to put it simple) look we’ve got to remain committed and honest in upholding the tenets of democracy, if we must execute our sincere duty, serving in the opposition as patriots.

The SLPP’s official mouthpiece, “The Unity Newspaper” did not only misinterpreted this paragraph in their Monday June 4 edition, 2012, but interpreted it to mean that Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara declared making sense of the statement that, if the destiny of all Sierra Leoneans is placed in hands of the APC “the country will surely degenerate into another round of war” as in the article published on Monday June 4, 2010.

Relating another quote in the same speech, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara delivered in his campaign launch speech dated December 18, 2010, “…the symptoms are beginning to rear their heads again as we see the political intimidation and thuggery…” Apart from saying that Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara’s speech was rhetoric, the final analysis would also settle that this paragraph was authored in a flown style and the arguments in it are generalized. The mood of conscience interpreted from the point of view of the paragraph is that politics should not be let to render the unity of Sierra Leoneans asunder. Of course it is evidenced everywhere that the spate of political violence was rife in the country and a politician is not expected to address a gathering of people like that at the material time in a campaign message as flag bearer aspirant without admonishing or put a caution to some of the main bottle necks that are likely to hinder the peace and tranquility of the country. Violence is one scourge that is now a menace in war torn Sierra Leone, thank God that politicians like Usu Boie are in the fore front, denouncing it. Perhaps that is one aspect of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara that makes him a firebrand politician.

The SLPP mouthpiece justified Usu’s honesty in this other paragraph quoting his citation that he admitted being a victim of the Kono and Mabela incidences. Many in Freetown know that Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara was born and raised in Magazine an area within which the Mabela community falls. Here the author of the piece in the SLPP newspaper tried to justify that Usu Boie who once had condemn the APC of being violent is now on the verge of becoming a member in such a party which to them, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara is guilty of betraying his conscience. Put it the other way round, they are saying in real sense that Usu Boie is guilty of what he used to condemn while he was with them in the opposition.

To put the story straight, the SLPP expelled Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara’s membership on a feeble explanation that he was not actively partaking in recent time in activities of the party following his defeat in the party’s national delegates’ conference in November last year.

The firm of argument here is that Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara decides to now declare his support, loyalty and endorsement for the APC and president Koroma on common grounds of match in policies after the SLPP decided to expel him. Where he finds his political romance next should not be the SLPP’s trouble any longer. Talking of his continued support as being quoted in the piece, Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara has always maintained that he would ever remain a supporter of the SLPP and support can mean what ever means. There has been instances wherein members of the SLPP have defected and or suspected to be on the verge of leaving and are not expelled expect in the case of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara. John Bandabla Dauda is one example, he was only expelled after his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs was confirmed, Hon. Bobor Sawyer was another example, Rtd Col Tom N’yuma and others. The elements of regional biasness and tribalism are un-separated with the SLPP. The issue is established and every sympathizer of the SLPP including the author of this article under review is aware of it. Yes Usu Boie came second in the delegates’ conference under circumstances one could describe roguish. South Easterners did vote for Usu Boie just as Northerners did vote for Julius Maida Bio that was not the problem, the problem is within the leadership hierarchy of the SLPP those in the executive command are the ones who are sowing the seed of discord among the members.

As to buying or wooing the support of tribesmen, every body knows the popularity figure of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara. It is unfortunate that the SLPP now doubts the philanthropic nature of Alhaji Usman Boie Kamara even after he had helped salvage their economic woes in the past. Talking of Usu Boie’s support how much was the money he doled to the SLPP campaign team in 2007 to the camp of then presidential nominee, His Excellency Solomon Ekuma Berewa?

The final analysis is that the SLPP regrets dishing out Alhaji Usman Kamara knowing his full potentials and are worry that his impact would cause a political tsunami in the November 17 elections.
