Prof Sheku Kallon Jr. is like the Professor that never was!

I respect Professor Sheku Kallon’s academic achievements and I will always feel the pride of that achievement because he is my fellow Sierra Leonean. It takes a lot of work to get to that point. However, I expect the Professor to utilize his knowledge in a manner that benefits not only his country, Sierra Leone, but also makes sense to other learned persons around the world. If he were a Journalist, I would have excused his puns and demystifications in some of his writings, because Journalists do things like that sometimes to play around an idea.  (Photo: Brima M. Turay, APC North America, Act. PRO)

He is the current Public Relations Officer for the SLPP in North America and I would not be surprised if he indulges in propaganda against the APC as long as he can defend such propaganda. But when he deliberately ignores the rules of engagement and goes overboard, he is inviting scorn and bitterness to his person.

I like the existence of the opposition parties in Sierra Leone. I also like the fact that they are probing, everyday, into the manner in which the APC is running the affairs of the state. This is good for our democracy and for our survival as a nation. In the midst of all this, Professor Sheku Kallon missed the central point, which is, to do well for your country under any circumstances. His politics does not know what nationality means and he can go the extra mile to present the country and anyone who tries to defend the APC administration as a liar and thief.

Professor Kallon, let me, with the school dropout knowledge that I have about our politics, reiterate to you that this is the 21st century and therefore our politics today stands many challenges and many opportunities on its path to growth and maturity. The politics of deception, apparently, is no longer popular in Sierra Leone because people are now becoming more and more aware of the trickeries that are floating all over the land. I don’t know why you do this Public Relations work for the SLPP; but mine for the APC is purely out of a desire to make our country better. In that process, I look and respect what the majority of Sierra Leoneans accept and embrace.

We do not expect you and your friends in the opposition to sing the praises of the APC. However, we expect you to trumpet, all over the world, the achievements of the country that you profess to love so much. It is now very obvious that you see politics as a matter of life and death. It shouldn’t be that way. I want to be able to go to the South and East of the country and have the same fun and enjoyment that I would have when I am in the North or West, under any government – APC, SLPP, PMDC etc… it is heartbreaking that you, professor Kallon, enjoy decent politics everyday in the United States and yet you preach the politics of deception and hate in your country of birth. I find that attitude very tormenting, for lack of a better and stronger word to describe it.

It took the SLPP 11 years to finally realize that they were not doing anything substantial for the people of Sierra Leone. If nothing else, you should thank and appreciate the APC party for helping to energize and revitalize your political base. The best moment for the SLPP party is when it is in the opposition.  This is the time they work two times harder than they should. Sierra Leoneans have discovered this about the SLPP. It stands to reason, then, that if your strength lies in being in the opposition, then I suggest you remain in the opposition, because it seems the only way Sierra Leone will ever benefit from the SLPP is when it is in the opposition.

President Koroma’s economic strides have transcended political, tribal or regional lines. He has set the bar too high for your liking, and I can understand why that is. What I also understand is the fact that we, patriotic Sierra Leoneans, deserve better and if we see better, we grab it with all our might and soul. Nothing you do between now and November 17 can change the dictates of the collective voices of the majority of Sierra Leoneans. They are determined to exercise the only power that crooks like you can never take away from them, which is the power to vote and be voted for! I will not let you distract me from what I am supposed to do for my country. I do not need any pay from you but I hope you will have the simple understanding, just like the majority of Sierra Leoneans, that this APC party is a government to reckon with and it is here to stay!
