Press Statement

The Anti Corruption Commission notices with alarm the continued misinformation communicated by the print and electronic media without recourse to truth verification of facts prior to publication.

In particular, reference is made to the 30th May 2012 Independent Observer Newspaper front page “Anti Corruption funds UDM with 1 million Leone”

Contrary to the publication by the Independent Observer, the Commission wishes to make known to the public that in adherence to this policy, no donation or support whether in cash or kind has ever been given to any political party, group or affiliation.

The Commission reaffirms its commitment to the fight against corruption while upholding the various values of integrity, independence and impartiality as stipulated in section 9 (1) of the 2008 Anti Corruption Act.

Media practitioners as partners in the anti corruption drive are advised to cross-check information through the Public Education and Outreach Department of the Commission to avoid inaccurate reporting which could result in undermining the public image of the Commission.

The Commission wishes to reassure the general public of its continued resolve in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.

Signed
Ms. Koloneh Sankoh, Head of Unit,
Public Education and Outreach Department.
